Steering Wheel Retrims

Welcome to our blog! We have decided to do a series of Blogs around subjects we are often asked about, or that we find are the most common source of misunderstandings or misconceptions. (and we have been told it helps with SEO, which is definitely brew-worthy!)

This time around we will be looking at Steering Wheel Retrims.

Ready? Got a brew? Ok let’s go!

Steering Wheel retrims are a service we offer to our lovely customers (that’s you!) to add a unique flair to their vehicle’s interior, match the theme of a modified car project or just return the steering wheel to it’s former factory glory!

“But what does it mean?” I hear you ask, I will need to condense the process a little bit, but roughly it involves a few stages. First and foremost, the first step to getting an amazing, top quality Steering Wheel Retrim starts with you! The customer..

You choose a design from our many options of top quality materials, colour, fabric, thread and style. Once you have decided (we can help you choose if you’d like) we take your unique vision and make it a reality.

It starts with removing the old leather, this is cut and peeled back, then an inspection of the steering wheel is undertaken. It make be that there is damage to the original factory foam, or that it has detached from the wheel frame. If so, then what?!

If there is damage, we can fix it, foam can be replaced, damage can be reversed, so don’t worry, in a lot of cases we can fix up your steering wheel and offer an amazing steering wheel retrim finished in the finest materials

Right, enough blowing smoke up ourselves, let’s get on with the process!

Once the wheel is in good shape, measurements are taken, material tracked out and construction begins! Your chosen material is measured and cut to spec before being joined together using a sewing machine.

Once the materials are measured, cut and joined correctly, they are offered onto the wheel to begin the next stage of measurement.

Once everything looks good, valleys are cut into the foam, or original ones are extended if needed, to allow the material joins to be sunk for a smoother, more refined finish.

Glue is applied, stitching is joined together and final cuts are made to create a precision finish to your steering wheel.

It isn’t a quick process, and we ensure however much time is required to have the ultimate finish is assigned. Heat is often used to activate glue and manipulate materials, other interesting techniques are also employed. The process is far more in-depth than people may realise, it really is quite interesting (if that’s your type of thing of course, we know it’s ours!)

Some people may choose a retrim to take their steering wheel back to the original factory finish, others may have it retrimmed to match the rest of their interior.

Steering wheel retrims can be the finishing touch to an interior project, or be a standalone centre piece to your car.

We truly believe that having your steering wheel retrimmed can uniquely set off your car’s interior, it really does make a huge difference!

It takes a lot of skill and experience to do this, our expert trimmers are masters in their field, attention to detail and high standards are key. We accept nothing less!
